One of the best ways to test your food prepping? Commit to a week of meals made entirely from your pantry. No grocery runs. No takeout. Just you, your stockpile, and some creativity.

During my pantry challenge, I learned:

I underestimated how boring beans get without seasoning.

Comfort food matters more than I thought.

I was short on cooking oils and shelf-stable treats.

It’s not just about calories—it’s about morale, variety, and nutrition. Try to hit all five:

  1. Carbs
  2. Protein
  3. Fats
  4. Fiber
  5. Flavour

The challenge also exposed gaps in my tools: I needed a manual can opener, more water for cooking, and better meal planning.

It’s fun. It’s eye-opening. And it trains you to adapt before you have to.
