Ladies let’s talk OPSEC (operational security). You’ve got the gear, but have you considered hiding it?

I’ve been creating a few clever hidey-holes around the house—think decoy tins, hollow books, even that “junk drawer” everyone avoids.

Remember: your stash should never scream “I’m a prepper!” when someone opens your pantry. Hide emergency cash, backup meds, and critical documents in layered spots. And for bulk supplies? Store them in plain sight—just disguise them. Labelled bins like “seasonal decorations” or “sports equipment” work wonders.

What’s your sneakiest storage trick? Share your genius (without giving away too much!).

Hide It Like You Mean It: OPSEC for the Clever Prepper

Alright ladies, it’s time to talk about a part of prepping that often gets pushed to the back of the cupboard—literally. I’m talking about OPSEC—Operational Security. Because let’s face it: all the stockpiled supplies and tactical know-how in the world won’t mean much if you’re advertising your stash like a clearance sale at Bunnings.

You’ve put in the work. You’ve built up your pantry, planned your bug-out bag, maybe even trained for grid-down scenarios. But have you considered what happens when someone else—maybe a neighbour, maybe a stranger—gets a peek at your setup during a time of desperation?

That’s where smart storage comes in.

Out of Sight, Peace of Mind

Let’s be clear: I’m not talking about burying things in your backyard (unless that’s your vibe). I’m talking about strategically hiding supplies in plain sight or in cleverly disguised locations around your home. Your goal is to make your stash look so boring or irrelevant that no one would think to touch it.

I’ve created a few hidey-holes I’m pretty proud of:

  • A hollowed-out book on the shelf holding emergency cash and USBs with critical documents
  • A decoy tin labelled “Baking Soda” that’s actually full of water purification tablets
  • My personal favourite: a fake “junk drawer” in the laundry with meds, multitools, and a flashlight tucked underneath the real clutter

And don’t get me started on the brilliance of labelled storage bins. One of my largest food buckets is inside a tote marked “Holiday Decorations – Easter.” Unless the looters are really craving plastic eggs and tinsel, I doubt they’ll go digging.

Layered Security Is Smart Security

The idea isn’t just to hide everything in one spot—it’s to create layers of security. Think of it as spreading your risk. If someone does find one stash, they don’t find everything. Your medical supplies, documents, batteries, and cash should all be stored in separate, low-profile locations.

If you’ve got kids, consider turning their old toy boxes or art supply bins into hidden storage. Got an old vacuum cleaner in the garage? Gutted, it makes a great place to store valuables. The point is to use what you already have—because obvious “prepper gear” can attract attention.

Stealth Mode, Activated

OPSEC isn’t paranoia—it’s practicality. Especially in a crisis, when desperation rises, your house shouldn’t stand out. It should look like every other house on the block. Boring. Normal. Unprepared.

But you’ll know better.

So let’s share (carefully!)—what are your favourite sneaky storage tricks? What everyday items have you repurposed into prepper hideouts?

Remember: just because you’re ready doesn’t mean the world needs to know it.
