Mental Prepping: Tools to Stay Grounded in Chaos

Disasters don’t just stress your body—they rattle your mind. Panic, overwhelm, brain fog—those hit hard when things go sideways. That’s why I’ve started mental prepping just as seriously as physical.

Here’s what I’ve packed:

  • A pocket journal and pen for brain dumps
  • Herbal teas for calming routines
  • A USB with downloaded music, meditations, and affirmations
  • A breathing cue card (simple 4-7-8 technique)
  • I also practice daily mindset drills:
  • Gratitude journaling
  • Visualization of positive outcomes
  • Grounding techniques like 5-4-3-2-1

Your calm mind is a survival asset. It helps you think clearly, make rational choices, and support your people.

Add a "calm kit" to your bug-out bag. Prepping your headspace is just as vital as stocking your pantry.
