Listen up, prep fam! Today we're diving into something that could literally save your life - situational awareness! Because all the tactical gear in the world won't help if you're too busy scrolling Instagram to notice trouble coming!

Been leveling up my families street smarts game with some serious awareness training, and wow - it's like putting on glasses they didn't know they needed! Learning to spot the red flags before they turn into OH-NO flags is a total game-changer!

Let's talk Cooper's Colour Code (shoutout to Jeff Cooper's "Principles of Personal Defense"!). Living in that yellow zone - relaxed but alert - is like having a personal security superpower. Not paranoid, just prepared! Think of it like running your own personal security camera that's always recording.

Here's where it gets tactical: Operation Random Routes! Started mixing up my daily routines because predictability is the enemy of security. Different routes to work, varying shopping times, and always having backup plans (because Plan A is just the beginning of the alphabet!). Getting the family to do the same. Being a hard target means being an unpredictable target!

Game-changer alert: declared war on phone zombies! Put down the phone while walking - revolutionary, right? Amazing how much intel you can gather when you're not face-down in Facebook! And those earbuds? Either ditch them or keep one out - because audio awareness is just as important as visual! In fact you will probably hear danger before you see it as it often comes from behind

Pro tips for leveling up your awareness game:

  • Park in well-lit areas
  • Check your vehicle before getting in
  • Know where the exits are (everywhere, always!)
  • Trust your gut - if something feels off, it probably is!

Reality check: the best self-defense move is avoiding danger entirely! All the martial arts skills in the world can't beat not being there when trouble starts!

Share your street-smart strategies below! How do you stay alert without getting paranoid? Got any personal security hacks? What's your favourite awareness training tip? Let's help each other stay safe out there! Because being prepared isn't paranoid - it's smart!
